Samsung-Flexible-Display-1

Despite earlier reports claiming Samsung won't be able to bring flexible displays to consumer products this year, a new report claims that like LG, Samsung will also have devices with flexible screen technology out in the market by November this year – assuming they can obtain 100% yields at their factories, they should be able to ship 1.5 million 5-inch to 6-inch flexible panels.

Of course, this doesn't mean you'll see the market flooded with flexible display-toting devices as 1.5 million is a pretty low number, but we could see some niche products that are way above the usual affordable prices use these flexible screens (oh, and flexible simply means the display will bend at a certain point, instead of being completely fold-able like you see in your sci-fi movies and stuff, though there are plans for making them actually flexible in the future).

Flexible displays are clearly shaping up to be the next big thing in displays, and with flexible displays made of a plastic substrate that's decidedly tougher against damage than glass, it should enable us to see lesser and lesser cases of smartphone displays shattering on impact. For now, let's wait and watch what the future holds.
