Earlier this week, Google announced the Google Play Edition of the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505G). Yesterday, we received a HUGE tip in our mailbox. So first of all, Special thanks to this secret tipper. The Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition is exactly the same device as the  standard Galaxy S4 at the hardware level. The big difference is of course Google's own Android Interface! Today we proudly present you the first firmware for the Galaxy S4 Google Edition. With this firmware developers could create easy custom roms for the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505). Our firmware is completely STOCK which means we didn't change anything! This firmware is based on Android 4.3! Google still needs to announce Android 4.3 but we expect this Android version to be unveiled by Google, soon. Android 4.3 is a minor update from Android 4.2.2.

Do NOT flash this firmware on your Galaxy S4!
Our advice is not to flash this firmware on your standard Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505/GT-I9500) as you might brick your device. Please check forums like xda-developers.com first. We tried to flash the firmware on our own Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505), but you simply can't flash your Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) through odin as the bootloader won't let you. This is the reason why we made a CUSTOM ROM for all GT-I9505 users. For now, this firmware is only a gift for developers!

We hope all Galaxy S4 developers are happy with our gift. Enjoy!

REMEMBER DO NOT FLASH YOUR GALAXY S4 (GT-I9505/GT-I9500) WITH THIS FIRMWARE!

We have obtained the first Android 4.3 test build firmware for the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505G). We wanted to test out Android 4.3 but didn't had the Google variant of the Galaxy S4 with us, so we ported it to our standard Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) and got some outstanding results.

Android 4.3 port from the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 is fully functional on the standard Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505), there is not even a single thing which isn't working. We haven't made any changes to the port, so it's 100% original with zero changes.

Note:
- This is not flashable through Odin.
- This will void your warranty.
- Don't attempt this if you don't have the skills to flash a custom ROM
- You are doing this on your own risk

System details:
Android version: 4.3

Requirements:
- Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505)

Instructions:
- Copy Google Play Edition ROM to your internal SD Card
- Enter Recovery (Power + Volume Up + Home)
- Do a Wipe/Factory Reset (Necessary due to new Android version)
- Flash Google Play Edition ROM
- Reboot your device!

Google hasn't made Android 4.3 public yet, but it's good to know that OEMs already have access to the source code. Early access will result in quick software updates and less Android fragmentation. Keep in mind, Android 4.3 is still in development phases and does not have all the features which are yet to be implemented.

We have just obtained some screenshots of an early Android 4.3 build running on a Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505). The test build was originally for the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505G), as we can see from the screenshot of "About phone".

According to the screenshots, the Android version is "4.3" and the build number is "JWR66N.S005.130625". Android build number is "JWR66N," and "S005.130625″ is something which Samsung has added to keep a record of internal test builds.

Google hasn't made Android 4.3 public yet, but it's good to know that OEMs already have access to the source code. Early access will result in quick software updates and less Android fragmentation.

Review: Samsung Galaxy S4 mini (GT-I9195)

Posted by Unknown

Posted by DannyD on 27 June 2013 at 21:18

???????????

SamMobile had the opportunity to play with the Galaxy S4 mini (GT-I9195). The Galaxy S4 mini is the follow-up of the Galaxy SIII mini. Or just the little sister of the Galaxy S4. Samsung started the tradition to create mini versions of their flagship devices. Samsung started with this with the Galaxy SIII. Samsung announced the Galaxy SIII mini in the last quarter of 2013, this mid-range specification device with high price didn't surprised us. Especially when we checked that some sensors where missing and the camera wasn't that great! Let's see if the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini can surprise us.

Design
As you might know of the Galaxy SIII mini the design does look like the Galaxy SIII. Also with this the device the Galaxy S4 mini looks the same as the Galaxy S4. Something boring but OK it has to look the same cause it is from the same family. Now we checked out the device ourselves and it actually feels great in the hand. Maybe it is because we as team use all smartphones with screen sizes of 5+ inches, something normal these days. But we still like and maybe prefer the display size of 4.3 inches like the Galaxy S II in the past!
Let's do it fast cause the design of the Galaxy S4 mini is the same as the Galaxy S4. On the front the display, speaker, sensors and the traditional home-button with touch sensitive buttons on each side. On the right side of the device the lock button and at the left side the volume rockers. At the upper side we see the 3.5mm Head-jack,IR (Handy for Samsung's own WatchON application) and a microphone, at the downside the micro USB connection and the other a microphone. At the back of the Galaxy S4 mini we can find the camera with the LED flash and the speaker on the bottom. All on all just the same design as the Galaxy S4 which can be confused but hey, we understand the word mini!

DESIGN – 7.0/10

SAM_0262

Interface
Samsung has thrown their own trusted touch-wiz Nature UX interface on the Galaxy S4 mini too. The interface is easy to use cause it is almost the same as the interface of the Galaxy SIII or the Galaxy  SIII mini. Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S4 the follow-up of their Touch-Wiz interface. The interface is now known as on the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Mega range and Galaxy Tab 3 line up. Now we can talk about 1000 words about Samsung's own touch-wiz experience but we guess it is better for you to watch the video below. Or just to check out our hand-on / pictures.

Of course the Galaxy S4 mini has a lot of smart functions, almost all smart functions of the Galaxy S4 are on the Galaxy S4 mini. Which make the device experience a lot better. smart functions as Smart Pause, Smart Stay, Air Gesture, Air View, and Multi window were all present. Cause the Galaxy 4 mini also has NFC, the smart function S Beam is also present! The big question is, will we use all smart functions? Probably not but still its fun to try. As said before the interface is easy to use. we scrolled fast to the interface settings etc. Something which is good in our opinion, one of the key points of the Apple iPhone was the easy to use interface. Samsung created the same flow with their Touch Wiz Nature UX interface! Compared with the interface of the Galaxy SIII mini and the Galaxy S4 mini the Galaxy S4 mini is big winner here. We finally have automatic brightness and we finally have a lot more smart functions, the both things we missed in the Galaxy SIII mini.

INTERFACE – 8.5/10

SMART FUNCTIONS – 8/10

SAM_0272

Multimedia
The Galaxy S4 mini is preloaded with two web browsers Google Chrome and Samsung own internet browser. We liked both browsers sometimes the browser of Samsung feels faster than the one from Google but we just used a pre-release Galaxy S4 mini, so maybe Samsung can fix this. What we did miss was the FM radio. According to Samsung people are listening to internet radio apps … So latterly Samsung want you to use internet! Applications as the mp3 player and gallery are looking the same as the one on the Galaxy S4. You could set your own view in the gallery. Spiral view, by date, by map, by name. It worked out very well but we already knew these features.

MULTIMEDIA - 9.9/10

Display
The Galaxy S4 mini uses a display of 4.3 inch qHD AMOLED display. We liked the display very much maybe cause the colours weren't that natural but still it feels like a big upgrade from the S3 mini. This could be due to the reason that the resolution is higher now. From 480 x 800 to 540 x 960. It looks to be a small step but for your eyes it actually looks awesome. We expect Samsung to use this as selling point the AMOLED display. AMOLED display colours are pretty nice. Black is off so real black, only the white balance of AMOLED displays are still a small problem. We can only hope Samsung will bring more OLED panels to their mobile phones. OLED is in our opinion the best mobile display technology. It is a expensive technology but very colourful. Samsung currently is the only brand who could develop OLED panels in high amount. Now to show off how the AMOLED panel of the Galaxy S4 mini looks like in, we added below some photos of different views of the Galaxy S4 mini. Remember in heavy sunlight AMOLED displays are not the best.

SCREEN – 7.0/10

screenmini1 screenmini3

Camera
Samsung downgraded the camera of the Galaxy S4 mini to 8 megapixel, but the good thing is that the interface is the same as on the Galaxy S4. So the Galaxy S4 mini users still got the same experience. Modes like: Sound & Shot, Night(Low Light Shot), Best Photo, Best Face, Beauty Face(include Live Beauty), HDR (High Dynamic Range), Panorama, Sports, Continuous Shot are all present. Of course the photo quality are a small step lower but the device still makes quite good photo's. You can compare the photo quality of the Galaxy S4 mini with the Galaxy SIII. A device that made in our opinion nice photo's too. In the end we would like to see a 13 megapixel camera sensor but this also will mean the price would be higher. We liked that Samsung used the same interface as with the Galaxy S4 for their Galaxy S4 mini camera. As said before the Galaxy S4 mini feels closer to the Galaxy S4 than previous with the Galaxy SIII / Galaxy SIII mini.

CAMERA – 7.5/10

Performance
Where the Galaxy S4 uses a Quad-Core or Octa-Core processor, the Galaxy S4 mini has a 1.7 GHz Dual-Core Processor. This wasn't that bad as expected, the device feels very smooth. Everything worked out well, and yes we were still on a beta-release firmware. We expect Samsung to make the device even faster and bug free. We didn't made benchmark tests cause the device used a pre-release firmware.

PERFORMANCE – 6.8/10

Battery
The battery of the S4 mini is 1,900mAh. Which is bigger than the Galaxy SII which use the same screen size. In our test period we the battery didn't drain. It looked stable. We lost in our test period around 10 – 25 percent of battery. Reminder our firmware wasn't final. We did not made any battery test, but in our opinion was the battery feels great.

BATTERY – 7.0/10

Conclusion
We are now at the final part of the review – our conclusion. So after we played a couple of hours with the Galaxy S4 mini we actually liked the device. The size is perfect and the screen looked great. The interface is basic and easy to use but as with every Galaxy device at the moment. But the design and interface is starting to get a bit boring. We did like what Samsung did with the Galaxy S4 mini compared to the Galaxy S4 and the previous version the Galaxy SIII and Galaxy SIII mini. Maybe the resolution of the  Galaxy S4 mini could be tad higher. But overall the device is a big upgrade compared to the Galaxy SIII mini. The smart functions were present and the camera modes too. We only missed the notification LED on the Galaxy S4 mini. The Galaxy SIII mini didn't had a notification LED either, but we believe those notifications LED's are quite handy. Maybe something for the next generation?

All in all The Galaxy S4 mini is a good upgrade to the Galaxy SIII mini. Most of the Galaxy S4 features are on the Galaxy S4 mini. The price of the device is a bit to high in our opinion, but you will get a device which has a perfect size, good specifications, nice looking screen and a nice camera.

If you want to know everything about the specification of the Galaxy S4 mini or you want to compare the Galaxy S4 mini with other devices hit over our compare page!

Rumour: Samsung developing Galaxy Note III with LCD

Posted by Unknown

Samsung is reportedly working on an LCD version for its upcoming Galaxy Note. The news comes from Korea's ET News where they claim that Samsung is working on an LCD variant along with an AMOLED one and will sell both the variants according to market preferences. This is interesting because Samsung's Galaxy Note series currently sells with AMOLED displays and the change in the new Galaxy Note is due to the shortage of OLED panels.

The site also says Samsung is in talks with two Japanese companies for procuring the IPS LCD panel but could weigh towards Sharp.

Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Note III at IFA in Germany and if that happens, we'll be reporting it live in September.

Review: Samsung Galaxy S4 Active (GT-I9295)

Posted by Unknown

Posted by DannyD on 25 June 2013 at 18:20

???????????

A week after the Samsung Galaxy S4 introduction, Samsung hinted about a dust / waterproof Galaxy S4 edition. This edition came true under the name of the Galaxy S4 Active. A Galaxy S4 with almost the same specifications, only Samsung "downgraded" the display, from Full HD AMOLED to Full HD LCD TFT and the camera from 13 megapixel to 8 megapixel. Now from the specifications side this wasn't that special. The special thing was the different build, it looks better but is it better? Time to check that out! We had the opportunity to test the Galaxy S4 Active!

Design
Designwise the Galaxy S4 Active doesn't look as the Galaxy S4. We personally prefer the Galaxy S4 Active more than the Galaxy S4. OK, the back is still plastic but the overall look was better of the Galaxy S4 Active than the Galaxy S4. Samsung brought back hardware buttons on the front side of the device, which doesn't look ugly at all in our opinion.
The front of the device has that huge 4.99" FHD LCD TFT display, speaker, hardware buttons, notification led, front camera and a couple of level sensors. On the back we find the 8 megapixel camera sensor with LED flash and speaker. From the sides we find the volume rockers and the power button. At the upper side we see the 3.5mm headjack covered with a little cover, IR blaster (handy for Samsung's own application WhatchON) and a microphone. At the downside of the device we see a micro USB port covered with the same little cover and a other microphone.

IP67 certification
The Galaxy S4 Active from Samsung has a IP67 certification. But what does this really mean?
IP stands for 'Ingress Protection' An IP number that is used to specify the environmental protection of enclosures around electronic equipment. These ratings are determined by specific tests. The IP number is composed of two numbers, the first are referring to the protection against solid objects and the second against liquids. The higher the number, the better the protection.

First number
0 – No protection (Sometimes X)
1 – Protected against solid objects up to 50mm³
2 – Protected against solid objects up to 12mm³
3 – Protected against solid objects up to 2.5mm³
4 – Protected against solid objects up to 1mm³
5 – Protected against dust, limited ingress (no harmful deposit)
6 – Totally protected against dust

Second number

0 – No protection (Sometimes X)
1 – Protection against vertically falling drops of water (e.g. condensation)
2 – Protection against direct sprays of water up to 15 degrees from vertical
3 – Protection against direct sprays of water up to 60 degrees from vertical
4 – Protection against water sprayed from all directions – limited ingress permitted
5 – Protected against low pressure jets of water from all directions – limited ingress permitted
6 – Protected against low pressure jets of water, limited ingress permitted (e.g. ship deck)
7 – Protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m
8 – Protected against long periods of immersion under pressure

Interface – Smartfunctions
Samsung added the same interface on the Galaxy S4 Active as they did with the Galaxy S4. The interface is knowned by the name of Touch-Wiz Nature UX. Everything looked the same and the same was with all the new smartfunctions. Things like Samsung's Smart Scroll/Pause, Air View/Gesture, Samsung WatchON (Samsung's remote control tv application) were present. The interface feels good and easy to use like we know from Samsung's interfaces. Now we could talk again about the interface but we think people would like to see it. So hit over our walk-through video above to see how the interface looks like! The Galaxy S4 Active runs on Android 4.2 called Jelly Bean. Google currently is busy to develop Android 4.3, and it is expected  that the Galaxy S4 Active will get this after the release of Google.

Interface – 8.0/10

Smart functions – 9/10

Like said before the Galaxy S4 Active has all smartfunctions like the Galaxy S4. Compared with the Galaxy S4 this device has the same sensors! Sensors that the Galaxy S4 Active has are Accelerometer Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Digital Compass, Barometer Sensor, Gesture Sensor, Finger Hovering Sensor and Light Sensor, pretty much! Now all sensors worked out well and this is needed for a device caliber like this. Something we did liked with the Galaxy S4 Active is that Samsung keeped the notification LED.This is something we missed in our Galaxy S4 mini review.

Now below you can find a couple of pictures of the interface from the Galaxy S4 Active. You can even toggle all smart functions on and off.

SAM_0227

Screen – Multimedia
Instead of the 4.99" Full HD sAMOLED panel Samsung placed a 4.99" Full HD TFT LCD display with a pixel density of 443 PPI. Now for some of you this could be a downgrade. sAMOLED technology from Samsung is the best current display technology out on the market but since the TFT LCD panel is better readable outside we prefer this screen for this device more. Specially when we know the Galaxy S4 Active is for using the device outside. The screen self looks sharp/crisp and the white balance looks better. Only the blacks aren't that black as with the Galaxy S4′s Amoled screen.

Now to show you how the screen looks like in direct sunlight or different views you could view the pictures below or check out our walk-through.

Based on multimedia the Galaxy S4 Active has all things as the current Galaxy S4. Which means we do not have a FM radio too. Samsung said people listen to the radio stations through applications or use YouTube to check out new music. If we want to speak for ourselves we do not use the FM radio either, but for people that do not have that big of a Data bundel this can be a problem. The Gallery has still the option to view it in spiral mode which makes the look of the gallery awesome. Other multimedia options as the mp3 player and the pre-installed google and Samsung applications were all present too, enough multimedia applications for everyone we expect.

Multimedia - 9.9/10

Screen – 7.0/10

Camera
Samsung upgraded the software of the camera too in their new Touch-wiz interface. The software is completely the same as with the Galaxy S4 their flagship model. The Galaxy S4 Active has all the options like Sound & Shot, Night(Low Light Shot), Best Photo, Best Face, Beauty Face(include Live Beauty), HDR (High Dynamic Range), Panorama, Sports, Continuous Shot. Specially for the Galaxy S4 Active Samsung added Aqua Mode. thanks to Aqua Mode you are able to record and shoot photo's under the water. Which is something really awesome! You can do this to 1 meter of depth. Guess what this can be pretty nice when you go on vacation and you are swimming between some beautiful fishes. Now cause we had a pre-release product we weren't allowed to test anything under the water, so we couldn't show that to you. Even our firmware didn't had the Aqua Mode yet. Now if you want to know more about the camera check the walk-through or hit over our Galaxy S4 review! Below a couple of photos created with the Galaxy S4 Active!

Camera – 7.5/10

Performance
In the Galaxy S4 Active Samsung uses the snapdragon 600 processors, this is a Quad-Core processor clocked at 1.9 GHz. Now cause we had a test firmware we didn't wanted to test the benchmarks. we had no problems or lag with scrolling through the menus with the Galaxy S4 Active. The interface feels snappy and the performance looked to be OK. We believe since these quad-core processor are in most smartphones, the people wouldn't see the difference anymore. This is something good, in the future processors are more needed for heavy gaming on your smartphone or watching Full HD video's. All in all the Galaxy S4 Active was fast enough for us.

Performance – 7.0/10

Battery
The Galaxy S4 is powered by a 2600mAh battery. With the full HD screen and upgraded hardware, we assumed it to would be extremely power-hungry but the battery performance has been on par with other smartphones, lasting well over a day (though considerably less with heavy usage). It's not as good as the Galaxy Note 2, but it's certainly worthy of its semi flagship position. Of course, battery life deteriorates over time, but as the battery is removable, replacement/spare batteries can be fitted for a relatively little cost, increasing the lifetime of the device significantly. All in all the battery feels stable for a test firmware!

Battery – 7.0/10

Conclusion
Working outside, love to bike or climb the mountains? The Galaxy S4 Active is the perfect device for you. The Galaxy S4 Active is dust / waterproof even the build is stronger which means the device is perfect for people who do lots of things outside! We prefered the design of the Galaxy S4 Active over the Galaxy S4. With a 8 megapixel camera the photo's are a little bit less crisp than the Galaxy S4 with the 13 megapixel camera. Even the screen technology of the Galaxy S4 is better. But there is a big win for the Galaxy S4 Active screen specially when you walk outside. The LCD is a lot better than the current AMOLED technology. Now thanks to Samsung and the easy interface the Galaxy S4 is a perfect device for constructors. The Galaxy S4 Active is simple the Galaxy S4 only the design has been changed in a good way and you still have the opportunity to use all smart functions of the Galaxy S4 all in all great job Samsung. Hopefully for the next time one flagship model which is dust / waterproof with the certification of IP67.

Samsung lost value on GALAXY S brand, premium line a must!

Posted by Unknown

Posted by DannyD on 25 June 2013 at 17:53

S43

Since the launch of the first GALAXY S device, Samsung's smartphone sales have been growing. The success of their own GALAXY S line is so massive, that customers have decided to drop other brands in favour of anything with "Galaxy" written on it. Even other high value brands like Apple are in trouble thanks to Samsung's innovation and, arguably, their marketing. Samsung's reputation of their GALAXY line-up is actually great: the marketing worked out in the right direction and sales have steadily increased. Unfortunately, however, this year: Samsung completely failed. The first issue was the early release of the Galaxy S4 and then so many S4 variants, despite the fact that the Galaxy SIII was (and is) still a flagship device with very similar design language.

Now let's start with the first, early release of the GALAXY S4. Samsung announced the GALAXY S4 in March 2013. The device went on sale from the end of April. The GALAXY S4 was announced to contend with flagship devices, the HTC One and Sony Experia Z. This could be a good thing, but alas, the device itself wasn't a big upgrade to the still perfectly adequate GALAXY SIII, which was still very popular at the time. The GALAXY S4 isn't a real follow-up from the GALAXY SIII, more like a redesigned software update. The only big differences between the GALAXY S4 and GALAXY SIII are the display and the camera, something that normal customers wouldn't care about that much, and that's all, so now they have to stop the production of the perfectly good GALAXY SIII to sell GALAXY S4 devices. The price of the GALAXY S4 much, much higher. In the current economic crises there isn't any good reason to buy the GALAXY S4 instead of the GALAXY SIII. Now this isn't everything. The Samsung GALAXY S4 uses the same kind of design language, which make the device look boring – it doesn't look unique. If customers are paying extra for a supposedly better device, then they want it to look different, and stand out, right? Samsung completely failed with the premium feeling! Competitors of Samsung released devices with an aluminium back or at the very least a better premium feeling in the hand. Samsung's other problem is that there are too many GALAXY S4 variants. The unique name of the GALAXY S has lost all of its value. Samsung calls every single new high-end device a GALAXY S device, even though initially this was reserved for its flagship range. Samsung announced the GALAXY S4 Active, GALAXY S4 mini and GALAXY S4 Zoom. This really confuses the market. Especially with leaked news that they will likely bring out another, faster version of the Galaxy S4 later this year. In other words Samsung just killed their own unique GALAXY S brand and their flagship product.

The last problem is that Samsung develops to many devices since 2012. There is completely no reason to buy new Samsung devices besides of the name of every GALAXY product. All Samsung devices are looking the same, they can do the same and only after 3 months feels the device old cause Samsung announced something better!

We hope Samsung keeps the name of the GALAXY NOTE brand unique. Samsung currently announce every year only one smartphone with GALAXY NOTE features. According to many GALAXY NOTE owners is this the way to keep the buying new GALAXY NOTE products besides of better specifications.

Samsung, please, never announce product which is better than your own one year old flagship device! The unique brand of the GALAXY S has lost its value. This is a sign of weakness to all Samsung GALAXY S owners. In future, make it better in terms of specification and worth the upgrade to buy it for next year. But never announce an 'updated' version to kill your own trusted GALAXY S brand value. Secondly please stop calling every new high-range GALAXY device a GALAXY S device. Perhaps this is a marketing ploy to ride on the back of the GALAXY S success, but all you are doing is confusing consumers, angering purchasers of your true flagship devices and diluting the marketplace.

We believe that customers would love to buy every new flagship device by Samsung, but only if customers have the faith in Samsung that they have something truly unique, for at least a year, especially now that Samsung announces 2 flagship devices on Android each year!
Samsung, look, the GALAXY S4 project failed. There was less in innovation and almost nothing unique to pay for. If you need to wait for 2 months to get better hardware, then you should wait for it! Don't release a half product especially when your older flagship device is still selling so well and popular in the marketplace.

The GALAXY S4 shows a sign of weakness!

Bring back that unique and premium line we saw you start with the GALAXY SII and GALAXY SIII and remember if your flagship device fails in terms of specification and design. It's all very well having a natural evolution – but it be considered evolution, it must evolve into something better! Make it worthwhile for customers to buy the GALAXY S for next year!

s4-lte-a-leak

Samsung's new variant of Galaxy S4 has appeared in a set of leaked pictures. The phone is expected to be announced this week on South Korea's SKT and KT networks and will feature Qualcomm's fastest Snapdragon 800 processor. While we're not sure of the exact clock speed, the phone will support LTE-A which will offer up to 2-3 times faster data speed compared to the current 4G LTE technology.

There are no details if the faster Galaxy S4 will make it outside Korea but consumers wouldn't mind extra bit of speed. Don't you think?

Japanese IP Court dismisses Apple’s appeal against Samsung

Both Samsung and Apple are quite occupied with the legal battle in the Japanese courts. Last week, the decision related to the bounce back patent went against Samsung but today the Tokyo Intellectual Property High Court ruled in favor of Samsung.

The court basically upheld the Tokyo District Court's decision from August last year that ruled Samsung to not infringe Apple's synchronization patent. The patent involved synchronizing music and video data on its Galaxy smartphones and tablets with servers.

Carbon fiber products in future Samsung products?

Posted by Unknown

BMW-and-Boeing-to-partner-up-on-carbon-fiber-research-including-recycling

Samsung has a good reputation in good plastic products. Today Samsung joins the SGL Group "The Carbon Company" for about 50%. This could hint future products based on carbon fiber material. Carbon Fiber is ultra light, easy to mold into just about any shape you want and very strong. It sounds great as we all know Samsung likes plastic cause of the weight of their mobile devices. Samsung also said that their materials must be easy to develop in huge amounts cause they sell millions of devices. All in all this could mean Samsung dumps metal as material choise and goes straight ahead with carbon fiber instead of polycarbonate (plastic).

Read the quote of Yoosung Chung, President and CEO of Samsung Petrochemical

"Our long-term cooperation with SGL Group will ensure the exclusive supply of carbon fiber composite materials to Samsung. We selected SGL Group as partner due to the company's unique expertise along the entire value chain from carbon fibers to CFRP components. Lightweight materials have become an important factor not only in industrial applications but also the consumer end markets such as digital media. This partnership will position Samsung as a leading player in the development and application of carbon fiber-based products."

Samsung will reportedly mass produce Galaxy Note III from August

Samsung last week apparently cut down on the production of the Galaxy S4 and reduced the components inventory by up to 15 percent. Now ET News claims the impact of this decision on suppliers will be minimal as one of Samsung's executives says an order with similar figures will be placed for the Galaxy Note III from August.

This bodes good news for suppliers but more importantly, good news for consumers as Samsung will mostly start mass production of its upcoming Galaxy Note device.

Galaxy Note III is expected to be announced in September in IFA and if Samsung starts producing the new device in August, we can expect the actual release somewhere around late September or early October.

Samsung infringes Apple’s bounce back patent in Japan

Posted by Unknown

The Tokyo court today ruled a decision that has gone against the world's biggest smartphone maker. The court found Apple's accusation of bounce back patent valid and concluded that Samsung's products did infringe on it. The bounce back feature allowed the screen to bounce when a user reached the end of the page.

The court's decision is interesting because America's USPTO invalidated the same bounce back patent in April.

Samsung's current models have modified the feature but the bounce back feature can still be found in some of Samsung's older models.

ATIV Q and ATIV Tab 3 officially announced

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, June 20, 2013

Posted by kunalg on 20 June 2013 at 20:28

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in digital media and convergence technologies, unveiled two new tablets today, giving consumers more ways than ever to create, consume and share content and blurring the industry boundaries. The two new windows 8 tablets, the ATIV Q and ATIV Tab 3, include several innovative new features that set them apart from other mobile tablets, including incredibly versatile form factors and extremely thin and light bodies. Both are powered by Windows8 and bring several unique features to market – including the world's thinnest tablet and a convertible tablet with the ability to run Android apps.

"Busy lives demand convenience, and the convertible nature of these tablets deliver the versatility, mobility and adaptability consumers should expect from personal computing today," said DJ Lee, President and Head of Sales and Marketing Office, IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. "These tablets are the result of people-centric innovation, and they were designed to provide consumers the flexibility to manage their digital lives on their terms whether they are in the office, at home or on the go."

ATIV Q

Report: Samsung reducing component inventory order for Galaxy S4

Samsung is reducing order for parts for its flagship Galaxy S4 phone reports ETNews. According to the report, Samsung's order for the Galaxy S4 parts is for 6.5 million units, which is less than half for May and will reduce the production of the Galaxy S4 by 10 to 15%. The report is interesting because it gives some credence to the earlier reports of sluggish sales of Galaxy S4 where analyst houses corrected their sales estimates for the phone and JK Shin had to step in to announce the sales of the device were fine.

Furthermore, the report also claims Samsung to discontinue Galaxy S III earlier than planned and will pull the models with low sales to concentrate on more popular models.
