Samsung will look into the low storage issue on the Galaxy S4

As soon as the Galaxy S4 hit the market in the end of last month, customers started to complain about getting half of the advertised storage space on their devices. Now Samsung has issued a statement regarding this issue after the Galaxy S4 got featured on BBC's Watchdog, last night.

"We appreciate this issue being raised and we will improve our communications," a Samsung spokesperson told CNET UK. "Also, we are reviewing the possibility to secure more memory space through further software optimisation.

"Samsung is committed to listening to our customers and responding to their needs as part of our innovation process."

When the storage issue was raised previously, Samsung defended itself by saying the lack of space was necessary to provide owners with "more powerful features" and we totally agree with them. The thing is that the Galaxy S4 is a device with a Full HD display which requires all the Android assets to be high-res too, for example: Size of icons increase when we use xxhdpi compared to hdpi or xhdpi.

Samsung gave more space to the system partition, where the operating system is installed, and reduced space on the data partition instead. The funny thing is that the system partition is almost full, so it will be interesting to see how Samsung pulls this one out.
