Wearable devices such as smartwatches and glasses (Google Glass being the most prominent example) are gearing up to be the next big thing in the smart devices market, and Samsung has been known to be working on a smart watch for quite some time. Now, it seems the Korean manufacturer is looking to find new opportunities in the market by developing different types of wearable peripherals, that will compliment smartphones by adding unique functionality.

A special team has been created that will work closely with the Mobile Communications Division in order to launch wearable peripheral devices in the market as quickly as possible, to offer special functionality like accessories such as the Nike+ FuelBand, which allows users to track their daily exercise activities (but is only compatible with iOS), something which Samsung has already dabbled in by providing the S Health feature on the Galaxy S4. A focus will also be put on creating useful and innovative software for these wearable devices, to provide a great experience, both hardware- and software-wise to the end-user.

At this point it is unclear what Samsung is working on apart from a smart watch (a FuelBand-like device is probably on the cards), but clearly the company is investing heavily in the upcoming market of wearable smart accessories, a market which Apple is also eyeing. We'll stay on the lookout for more on this front, so stay tuned!
