Samsung in late last year applied to the United States Patent Office for a patent of Gear Hinge device for two displays. Going by the sketch published by Patent Bolt it seems the device will have two separate displays while the hinge will connect both the displays together so as to enhance the experience of the user. In short, the working seems to be somewhat similar to what we see on Nintendo's DS devices.
Considering this is only a patent, the actual product could still be years away but it's a good thing Samsung is trying to work on dual-display devices that could reduce the actual size of the device but allow users to enjoy big screen.
Some of the applications for such a form factor could be used for e-book reading, multitasking etc.
