Following a massive price cut on OLED TVs, Samsung is planning on reducing prices of its UHD (Ultra High-Definition) TVs as well. UHD TVs offer a resolution almost four times higher than full HD ones and will be the next step in high-definition televisions, and Samsung is looking to court consumers by pricing them at affordable levels.

"Soon there will be an announcement of UHD TV price cut," said Kim Hyun-seok, vice president and head of Samsung's visual display business division. "As the market for UHD TVs is likely to grow exponentially any time soon, it is important that we suggest a price level at which consumers find affordable."

Current Samsung 55- and 65-inch UHD TVs at 6.4 million won (~$5,500) and 8.9 million won (~$7,500), respectively, which put them far above the reach of mass market consumers, so a respectable price cut will certainly be necessary if the industry wants to see higher adoption of these next-generation televisions.
