Like everyone has pointed out time and time again, the biggest reason for poor consumer interest in the Galaxy Gear, Samsung's first smartwatch, has been its rather high asking price of $299. If you're in the US and have been waiting for a price drop on the Gear before buying one, then you might want to head over to eBay's Daily Deals section, where the smartwatch is currently selling for $279.99.

Okay, so that's not exactly a very enticing discount, but if you really must have the Galaxy Gear on your wrist, then it's a nice little offer that you should make use of, since Samsung doesn't seem to be in the mood to give the Gear a permanent price cut. Shipping is free, so go hit that source link and place an order before the offer's validity ends and leaves you waiting for the next discount to come along.

Following a leaked Android 4.3 update roadmap for U.S. variants of the Galaxy S III, S4, and Note II, and Android 4.3 firmware leaks for the S4 and (international) Note II, Samsung has officially announced the Premium Suite software package for the aforementioned devices in North America. The Premium Suite will update the devices to Android 4.3, and add features such as updated Easy Mode, Multi Window™, advanced camera options, KNOX, and additional features with new functionality.

Apart from the new features, the update will also add support for the Galaxy Gear, which Samsung announced in a separate press release a couple of days ago. The update will begin rolling out today, and will complete over the course of the next few weeks; the Galaxy S4 mini and both Galaxy Megas are also confirmed to be receiving Gear support, though Samsung didn't mention a time frame for those devices.

Samsung announced today that the Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S III, Note II and the S4 would begin rolling out in the US in the coming weeks, and it looks like the Verizon variant of the Galaxy S4 could begin receiving it from today itself. The update's details were listed on Samsung's and Verizon's website, showing the build number VRUEMJ7 and a release date of October 28th, though Verizon's support website still points to a previous update as being the latest one.

According to the changelog, the update will add Galaxy Gear support, enable Band 4 LTE, add an updated version of Group Play (from the Note 3), and Samsung KNOX support. Verizon isn't exactly the most timely carrier when it comes to updates, so it will surely be a huge surprise if they push out the update before other carriers, though it's best not to get too hopeful until more details emerge on the rollout schedule.

Report: Samsung and NBA enter $100 million deal

In a few months, if you start seeing a lot of Samsung devices in basketball games, don't be surprised: according to The Wall Street Journal, Samsung has entered a $100 million deal with the National Basketball Association, to "bring the South Korean company's technology courtside" at NBA games. As part of the deal, Samsung will provide the courtside monitors that referees use to review close calls, and will get customized video content for its smartphones, tablets and televisions.

There's no official word on the NBA deal just yet, but judging by how Samsung has been doubling down on marketing and advertising its devices, it won't be the least bit surprising if the deal becomes official in a few days, right before the next NBA season kicks off.

Samsung Galaxy S III beats iPhone 5s and 5c in touch accuracy

GALAXY_SIII_2-feature

A recent study found that Apple's new iPhone 5s and 5c beat all other smartphones in existence when it comes to touch response time – however, when it comes to touch accuracy, both of Apple's new iPhones fell behind the Galaxy S III, Samsung's yesteryear flagship that is now more than a year old. A touch accuracy test was done by OptoFidelity, a Finland-based tech test and measurement company, and the results were universally in its favor.

The results revealed that the iPhones are rather inaccurate around the edges and towards the top of the display. The Galaxy S III was also a bit less accurate on the sides, but was found to have largely accurate response across the middle of the screen, much more than both iPhones. As a result, typing errors were much lower, so it looks like while response time may be in Apple's favor, higher accuracy on the S III (and likely other devices) levels the playing field and takes away its advantages, at least as far as typing is concerned.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 camera app ported to Galaxy S4

s4-diagonal-feature

While the Galaxy S4′s camera packed the highest amount of features of any smartphone when it was launched, it has since been superseded by the Galaxy Note 3, which adds in a few more, including Surround Shot, which is Samsung's take on the 360 panorama mode (Photo Sphere) that Google introduced in Android 4.2. Now, thanks to a few developers over at XDA, Galaxy S4 owners can enjoy all those new features as well, as the camera app from the Note 3 has been ported over to the S4.

The camera app works pretty nicely on Android 4.3 on the S4, with all features working as they should. Installing it is the standard affair of putting a zip file on the phone, booting into a custom recovery, and installing it from there, so head over to the source link to grab the necessary files and start enjoying the Note 3′s camera features on your S4. As always, take the necessary backups before proceeding, lest you lose important data.
