Developer support for the Galaxy Gear is one of those things that will decide whether Samsung's smartwatch lives or dies in the market, and for now, it looks like developers are happily jumping on the smartwatch trend. Popular picture sharing service Snapchat has launched a version of its app for the Gear – Snapchat Micro - even before the smartwatch has made it into the hands of consumers.

The app will capture pictures using the 1.4-megapixel camera built into the watch's strap, and you'll be able to share those pictures with your friends right from the device. There will be an option to choose a time limit before the photos get sent to your friends, similar to the mobile version. Snapchat has also added support for devices like the Galaxy Note, to let users add a drawing or caption to captured stills.

"Our team is constantly looking at ways to reduce the time between our experience of a moment and our ability to share it," said Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel. "The Snapchat Micro app is an experiment we're really excited about." Here's hoping more and more developers see the Gear as a platform for such experimentation as well.
